I’ve never seen a UFO. But my Thirteenth Circle coauthor, MarcyKate Connolly did, back in fourth grade, and I am loving hearing her tell that story to various wide-eyed listeners as we promote our new middle-grade sci-fi/mystery book. (Out 1/30/24!! Have you
Have you written a post about writing postcards to bookstores? For my middle grade coming out in September, this is something I'd love to try, but I'm not sure where to start.
I don't have a whole post about postcards, but if it sounds like something that would be of interest, I'll make a note to tackle the topic in the future. Our book comes out in two weeks, and I'm curious to find out if it feels like it made a tangible difference! (Maybe part of that future post is figuring out how that could be measured...) Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes please!! I would read that immediately! Tracking measurable effects is a good piece of it, and I'd also love to know how you got the contact info? Was it simply a matter of looking up individual indie book shops one by one?
Long story short, my coauthor had an incomplete list of bookstores and libraries from a mailing she did years ago, and I spent...a lot of time checking and updating it! (Sadly, a lot of the stores she had in her spreadsheet closed during Covid...) I started the list update by making sure every state was included, and then the major cities I could think of within each state. Googling "independent bookstore [city]" was my friend!
I am predictably more science 😄
You called it!

This sounds quite brilliant! I think a new spreadsheet is about to happen...
